Changing Lanes is like Changing jobs

July 7, 2007

I was driving home one day when I realised that changing lanes is like changing jobs.

Your lane is slow, you take a look left or right, you see an opportunity and then you filter!
This is the same as your job progress is slow, you seek jobs, you go for interviews and then you jump!

After you filter, you think you are going faster but you see another opportunity and you filter.
Similarly for your job.

In the same sense, roads on expressways are faster and wider. –> jobs in certain markets promise more dough and faster progression

The destination of the driver determines where you want to reach –> how high you want to climb in the corporate ladder.

Some of us take a paycut (Filter to the ‘slower’ left lane) in order to make it big or have another way out (Exit off the road)

Sadly, some of us are too hasty and impatient in our work and results in wrong turns and worse, accidents.

Lastly, it will have been horrible to get into an accident, but it would be worse if you killed someone in that accident. –> getting someone sacked in the process of your work.

Some thoughts for you….

Hello everyone…

July 7, 2007

As someone who grew up in the stressful world in Singapore, I retained a love for the Arts; for the love and art of English metaphors, similes, thoughts and interpretations.

As I have passed out the chance to pursue literature or pyschology for a more practical Business degree, this blog documents my thoughts on life and my understanding and comparison of human life and interaction.

I hope whoever comes in will find the blog interesting enough to leave comments for me.

Cheers,
Rick
